Silk fabric referring back to the sumptuous brocatelle which decorated wealthy Italian homes in the late sixteenth century. Flowers encircled by a crown with lily rise up elegantly from a gadrooned vase. The raised pattern has been retained from the original and which, in some details of the design, accentuates the chiaroscuro of the decoration. The stylish sheen of the ground, contrasting with the pattern, adds special diversity to the composition.
